Terylene is a modern man-made fibre used in clothing. It can be made in many different variations like satin terylene, chiffon terylene and jacquard terylene.
It is popular for printed clothes as it holds dye well and doesn’t fade. It also shapes well and doesn’t shrink.
Having many of the advantages of silk, like an airy and soft feel, terylene doesn’t need to be dry-cleaned and satin terylene is more durable than satin silk. It is also highly stain-resistant.
Is terylene sustainable?
Because it is man-made, Terylene doesn’t require large quantities of water and land for production (as is the case with viscose, silk, cotton etc.), this is the main reason why it is an environmentally friendly choice for clothing production. Because of the durability clothes are also able to keep shape and functionality for longer time than non man-made fibres.
